SPACE BLANKET - Jump To Installation Instructions
The Space Blanket range is a premium ‘encapsulated’ glass mineral wool range of loft insulation products made with ECOSE® Technology. Space Blanket can be used between 400mm ceiling joists or on top of existing insulation. Space Blanket Wide can be used between 600mm ceiling joists or on top of existing insulation. Space Blanket Kingsize can only be used as the second layer over the joists. The sleeved encapsulation is a part metallised polythene film that reflects heat and makes it extra easy and comfortable to install. It is also ‘compression packed’ for less handling - expanding when unrolled.

ECOSE® Technology
Knauf Insulation mineral wool products with ECOSE® Technology benefit from a formaldehyde-free binder made from rapidly renewable bio-based materials instead of petroleum-based chemicals which is up to 70% less energy intensive.

The technology has been developed for Knauf Insulation’s glass and rock mineral wool products, enhancing their environmental credentials without affecting the thermal, acoustic or fire performance. Insulation products made with ECOSE® Technology contain no dye or artificial colours – the colour is completely natura

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

For safety, work from suitable 'crawling boards' spanning four joists.

STEP 1- Start from the eaves ensuring the wall plate is covered and work towards the center of the loft, placing 100mm between the joists (on top of any existing insulation in place). Butt joint where necessary.

STEP 2- When space along the joists is filled, the end of the roll can be turned back to start an extra layer of insulation or may be cut to size. If cut, glass mineral wool will be exposed.

STEP 3- Layer insulation to the required thickness ensuring the ceiling beneath is completely covered except directly under the water tank.

STEP 4- Where the depth of previously installed insulation has reached the tops of the joists, extra heat saving is gained by 'cross layering' (at right angles to joists) with 150mm Space Blanket (or 200mm for even higher energy savings).

STEP 5- Insulate the loft hatch, install a retaining bolt and draft seal the hatch.

Don't forget - lay Space Blanket silver side up

TANKS & PIPES
Fasten loft insulation all around and on top of your cold water tank to protect from freezing. Do Not insulate directly underneath the water tank. Wrap water pipes to protect from frost.

ELECTRICALS
Insulation must not be laid over electric cables. Carefully, lift electrical cables above the insulation so that they do not overheat. Ensure there are no loose or disconnected wires and re-route them if necessary. Insulation should be kept at least 75mm away from recessed light fittings and hot flues to prevent them from overheating.
